Chew On This Oct 17th

Chew on This : a national event to draw attention to th eneed for a national anti-Poverty Plan.

This October, for the third year in a row, communities across Canada are calling for a national Anti-Poverty Plan to end poverty and hunger for the almost 900,000 people in Canada who use food banks each month and the millions of others struggling to get by.

#WeNeedAPlan - hundreds of volunteers from food banks, schools, churches and local non-profits are joining together to bring attention to the almost 900,000 people in Canada that continue to rely on food banks each month.

On Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 instead of handing out a free lunch, volunteers are brown bagging their call to action. They will be handing out lunch bags marked “Chew on This!” which contain an apple along with a magnet and postcard calling people to action to sign on to the call for a national anti-poverty plan for Canada.

Last year, 45 groups in 37 communities across Canada organized ChewOnThis! events. This year, we’re hoping that 100 communities will join us in marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty with ChewOnThis! events from coast-to-coast-to-coast.

On Saturday, October 17th we will celebrate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty with an online event featuring photos taken by local organizers of events in their communities!
